Improving Your Small Living Space With a Home Office

Since the start of the pandemic, a lot of office jobs have shifted towards remote work and WFH. Remote work comes with a ton of perks when it’s done right. This means making a dedicated workspace that you can call your own.

When you create a home office in your home, you reap many benefits. But what if you’re living in a small space? It’s got to be hard to set up an office then, right? Well, it might seem that way, but setting up a home office in a small living space is easier than you think.

The Benefits of a Dedicated Workspace

Productivity > Stress

When you set up a dedicated home office in your home, you’ll see plenty of different benefits. If your home office is set up correctly, you’ll find that:

  • You’re more productive. A good home office removes distractions, making work far more productive.

  • There’s less stress. Working from home, when done effectively, means you stress out less.

  • It separates work and life. This can be really hard to do when you live and work under the same roof. Still, it’s important to find a healthy balance between the two.

Preparing to Set Up a Home Office:

When you’re living in a small space, like an apartment or tiny home, it may seem impossible to set up a home office. Thankfully, it is far from impossible. Keep the following things in mind as you prepare to set up an office in your small living space.

>> YOU DON'T NEED MUCH SPACE:

A home office doesn’t have to be a standalone room. Many home office spaces consist of adding a desk to an appropriate room. This lets the space function in multiple ways. Just make sure you can put work away when the day is over.

>> IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE EXTRAVAGANT:

Many images online of home offices include large filing cabinets, desks that take up half of a room, and several chairs. It can be so much simpler than that, though. All you really need is a functional desk and a comfortable office chair.

FURNISHING YOUR HOME OFFICE:

When you’re living in a small space, like an apartment or tiny home, it may seem impossible to set up a home office. Thankfully, it is far from impossible. Keep the following things in mind as you prepare to set up an office in your small living space.

>> CHOOSING FURNITURE:

Your office furniture doesn’t need to be big. In fact, you really just need to consider three things. First, your desktop should be large enough for you to work. This means putting your computer and reference materials on top without them falling off, plus a few decorations. Next, your chair needs to be comfortable. You’ll probably be in it quite a bit. Finally, add storage, like shelves or cabinets, if necessary.

>> PICKING OUT DECOR:

Your home office should feel professional. It needs to provide the right vibes for work, meaning that décor should be appropriate. Some great options for a professional office space are indoor plants, wall art, and crystal and mineral pieces. Crystals are great since you can find them in all sizes. They also come in a variety of colors. You may be drawn to some for their beauty, and others because of their energy. Either way, they’re a great addition to your home office space.

Putting a home office in a small living space isn’t impossible. It just requires you to take notice of some things more than others. Remember, keep it simple, and keep it professional.
